Jake Sigal – Driven to Innovate

Livio founder and CEO Jake Sigal was never a fan of working for the man. A third-generation entrepreneur with a passion for music and technology, it was only a matter of time before he took his career – and the future of the consumer electronics industry – into his own hands.

In 2008 at the age of 26, Jake quit his job at Delphi and used a $10,000 loan from his parents to weld two of his life passions — technology and music — into one dynamic and exciting company: Livio.

Jake founded Livio in the guest bedroom of his home in metro Detroit where he developed the first Wi-Fi branded Pandora Internet radio and quickly raised millions in funds from angel investors and venture capital firms.

At 31, Sigal’s drive to innovate has established Livio Connect as the leading integrator of mobile consumer electronics and automotive technology.

Before he started Livio, Jake worked in the Consumer Electronics Group at Delphi as a product line manager for XM Satellite Radio. That’s where he met Massimo Baldini, then his boss, who later joined Livio where he’s still referred to as “the boss”. Jake started his career as a DJ equipment product developer where he invented the original USB turntable and co-invented the iDJ under the ION audio brand at Numark.

Far from being done innovating, Jake is the youngest member ever to sit on the Consumer Electronics Association’s Board of Industry Leaders, and he currently sits on both the CEA’s Small Business Council and the Board of Advisors for Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering. Jake earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering at Ohio University, where he marched on the drumline of the infamous OU Marching 110. He also serves on the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) Board of Industry Leaders.

Jake has been recognized with a list of regional and national awards for his vision and success including the 2011 Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Semifinalist, 2012 CEA Innovation Entrepreneur Finalist and 2012 Automation Alley Entrepreneur of the Year.

Under Jake’s leadership, Livio has become an award-winning company netting honors including: 2010 Mobile Apps Showdown Finalist, 2013 Bronze Edison Award, 2011 Michigan Economic Bright Spot Award, 2012 Michigan 50 Companies to Watch, Entrepreneur Magazine 100 Companies to Watch and the 2012 Frost & Sullivan New Product Innovation Award.

When he’s not inventing new products or finding ways to make technology work better for everyone, Jake spends his time outdoors, staying active by doing everything from skiing to riding fixed-gear bikes. You can also find him front and center at sound at electronic music festivals across the country.
