Some thoughts from the industry...

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"The trend towards consumer electronics device integration into the automobile will continue to accelerate. The relationship between these two disparate industries will be strengthened through innovative and collaborative exchanges as exemplified by this conference."

"Market coexistence of OEMs in-dash navigation systems and Portable Navigation Devices (PND) is taking place. For vehicles that are not perceived in the market place as luxury ones, a tighter relation between OEM and PND manufactures could result in navigation device that is not only reasonably priced for end customers but also nicely and seamlessly integrated in these vehicles.

*NEW SESSION* : Can Tier 1 Suppliers Keep Pace with Consumers?

The automotive supply chain is in flux. As more car manufacturers use software to differentiate their products and track to consumer trends, Tier 1 suppliers must respond by becoming better software integrators. At the same time, traditional Tier 1 companies must deal with increased competition from software vendors, many of whom are poised to graduate from Tier 2 to Tier 1 status.

Andrew Poliak explores the changing roles in the supply chain and discusses with Rich Chutorash of Johnson Controls, a major Tier 1 supplier, how Tier 1's must adapt their business models to succeed.

•  The growing role of software with the Automotive OEMs
•  The growing role of software integration expertise at the Tier 1 suppliers
•  The increasing sophistication of user interfaces (UIs) and the challenge of accomplishing UI development cycle
•  The challenges of achieving true integration with consumer devices and customer support services
