Cologne-based ProSyst Software and CiaoLab Technologies SpA are providing service providers and consumers with new possibilities through their jointly developed service gateway.

The aim of the intensified partnership is to extend the existing position in the rapidly expanding market for residential gateways, which is projected to undergo a yearly growth rate of 74% by 2004.

CiaoLab's newly developed Home Station, combined with ProSyst's mBedded Server technology, is a multimedia system. The Home Station allows the remote delivery, updating and administration of services and applications, using a variety of wide area networks (WAN). All of the services and applications developed for the Home Station have been integrated into the OSGi environment through ProSyst's service packages. The Home Station thus remains open for new applications and standards. Service providers are enabled to remotely offer, provision, control, bill - and, if needed, uninstall - services for end users.

ProSyst's Smart Home Suite is based on the open, modular and scalable mBedded Server software platform, and is the technological heart of this residential gateway. It enables interaction and communication between device manufacturers, external service providers, gateway operators and end clients and paves the way for the use of new applications and services, such remote device control, diagnostics and maintenance, as well as software updates over the Internet.

Daniel Schellhoss, member of the Executive Board of ProSyst Software AG, comments on the cooperation: "In CiaoLab we have found a partner who is an innovative supplier in the residential gateway market. In combination with our software platform, we jointly offer a solution that completely meets the needs of gateway operators in terms of safety and user friendliness."

Stefano Antoniazzi, Head of Software Competence Center from CiaoLab, adds: "We believe the OSGi standard to be a forward-looking, open basis for residential gateways and embedded servers. We have chosen ProSyst's OSGi based products as they represent the most stable complete solution currently available in the market. The bundles provided are tailored to the requirements of residential applications. In addition to the broad range of service packages and tested platforms, ProSyst offers a more attractive licensing model than the competition."
