ITIS Holdings plc (ITIS) announced the largest contract to date for its RDS TMC (Radio Data System – Traffic Message Channel) service. Under the terms of a new three year agreement with BMW, RDS TMC will be standard with immediate effect on all BMW vehicles sold with factory installed satellite navigation systems and will be available as an upgrade on all DVD based navigation systems already installed since September 2002. RDS TMC will be the only traffic information service to be featured as standard on BMW vehicles and will provide driver enhancement by allowing drivers to receive real time and predictive traffic information from ITIS enabling them to avoid and re-route around traffic congestion on the strategic UK road network. ITIS traffic information combines AA Roadwatch and Floating Vehicle Data (FVD) which is then broadcast using bandwidth licenced exclusively by the Radio Authority to ITIS until 2012. Lee Connolly, BMW Product Manager said: “Following the introduction of RDS TMC on the 7 Series it was a logical development for BMW to standardise this important driver benefit across our entire range of vehicles. Satellite Navigation is a key requirement for many of our customers and with the added benefit of RDS-TMC drivers will be able to make informed routing decisions based upon the prevailing traffic conditions. This could save them time and improve the quality of their journey and driving experience” Stuart Marks, Chief Executive, ITIS Holdings commented: “It immediately delivers substantial on going revenues to the business. BMW join a list of vehicle manufacturers including, Toyota, Saab, Ford Motor Company and Subaru who already operate this service”. |
